Philanthropy supports communities affected by drought in Serbia

During the summer months, high temperatures and drought further affected the daily lives of people in certain parts of Serbia and increased the needs of the most vulnerable populations for essential resources, including access to safe drinking water. Philanthropy continued to provide support this summer, responding to the needs of communities where assistance was most urgently required.

In response to the drought, and with financial support from ACT Alliance, Philanthropy distributed 35,000 litres of drinking water to more than 800 vulnerable residents in the territory of the City of Kraljevo.

Drinking water was distributed in the villages of Gledić, Drlupa, Zakuta, Petropоlje and Čukojevac, as well as in an informal Roma settlement in Kraljevo. Particular attention was given to people over the age of 65 during the distribution of assistance.

Support is also continuing through activities focused on water safety for local communities. In cooperation with the Sector for Emergency Management and the Public Health Institute, Philanthropy will organise water quality testing from public wells in the above-mentioned villages.

The test results will serve as a basis for developing a study with recommendations for further action by the local authorities.

Philanthropy continues to support communities in line with their identified needs, particularly in situations where access to essential living conditions and the safety of the most vulnerable members of the community are at risk.
