Project for Increasing Resilience to Natural Disasters and Enhancing Preparedness Strategy

Philanthropy started implementing the project "Project for Increasing Resilience to Natural Disasters and Enhancing Preparedness Strategy - PREPS" in September 2020. The project is being implemented in 14 municipalities in Serbia and BiH, in which an increased risk of natural disasters has been detected, and which do not have sufficiently developed capacity to reduce the risk of natural disasters. The project is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and is implemented by CRS in BiH, and Philanthropy and Caritas Serbia in Serbia.

The activities of strengthening local self-governments and local communities Philanthropy implements on the territory of Kraljevo, Lucani, Mionica and Krupanj. DRR Working Groups have been formed in these towns, consisting of representatives of local governments, respective public service providers, other relevant institutions and organizations and Philanthropy. Population living in local communities carry out capacity and risk self-assessment actions for more adequate preventive actions. Furthermore, thematic DRR trainings are conducted in all targeted areas, as well as the preparation or adaptation of local available DRR plans and documents.

During the project, local communities will also have the opportunity to apply for grants and implement small projects in order to strengthen the resilience of local communities to natural disasters. Local communities will also organize simulations of natural disasters, evacuation exercises, as well as conduct raising awareness campaigns on the potentials and relevance of DRR managing.
